Oh what fun. Subtitle of exploring Liechtenstein and its world cup dream is only half the story. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Charlie Connelly's paean to radio, and especially radio experienced by someone growing up in Britain, consists of a series of vignettes of the well-known and the less well-known movers, shakers and characters in the development of the wireless.

So, as well as word-portraits of Captain Peter Eckersley, Gugliemo Marconi and Lord Reith, we also get to read about the significant contributions to the development of the medium instigated by Sheila Borrett, Hilda Matheson and Olive Shapley, amongst others.

A surprising and touching ending to the book sees Connelly meditating on the death of his father and the long-forgotten link for many returning WW1 soldiers between the wireless and an after-life.

This is a love-story to radio by a knowledgeable and convincing story-teller. It's a good, enjoyable read.

This is the third Charlie Connelly book that I have read, and it is just as good as the others. I think that his writing style is great, he manages to be interested in the subjects he writes about, informative and the prose is lightly scattered with humour.

He has split the chapters to cover different weather event, rain, snow wind and so on.

Each chapter has anecdotes and characters from the history of weather forecasting, significant weather events and also his personal feelings and interactions with the weather.

A really good book, can highly recommend.

Spotted on Jo and Betties profiles and I like the sound of it.

The book is humourous and a quick read, although I did find his moaning about the weather annoying. If you are going to go walking around Britain in October don't start moaning when it starts raining.

i would also point out that Burke and Hare never robbed graves, the first body they sold died of natural causes the rest they murdered.
