Quick Review:

Spongebob is everywhere! It's hard to believe there is even a book series about this guy. I decided to pick this book up as a simple, brainless read and it was definitely for the middle grade audience. Normally I can appreciate a good middle grade read, but as an adult I didn't find it that intriguing.

That being said, it's super fun and the kind of book middle graders would eat up. It's a delightful little book for that audience!

Picked this up for my 8 y.o. at the library. She wasn't interested in learning about Elvis so I read it on my own. Nice little intro about Elvis for kids. I was struck by the number of cultural references would be foreign to my child.

BTW my mom and aunt took my grandmother to see a very young Elvis in concert in New Orleans. She was shocked by the concert but also seemed to have a good humor about it. She later my ran into him in a department store and said, "You... You're...!" He asked her to not blow his cover. I love the thought of Granny intersecting with the King of Rock n Roll!… (más)

Review for both issues #1 and #2...

This was okay. Interesting in that we get to meet not only Doc Savage's father, but also his grandfather. However, the art is nothing to write home about, and the writing is only slightly better than the art. Decent plot, and some fun stuff with Doc's toys still in the development stage. But I find that, unlike the source material, Doc is far more emotional, and the five men on his team—Monk, Ham, Renny, Johnny, and Long Tom—don't act like they do in the books, nor are they given much screen time.

The story itself was outlandish enough for Doc, but the execution was rather tame.
