This is one of those books that if reading to or with children works best if it’s a springboard for discussion. There isn’t too much too it otherwise. The picture book proper simply shows & tells about kids using their imaginations and skills in various ways, showing what’s important to them, showing their little worlds. I like the message. The art is lovely. I wasn’t surprised though when I finished and looked at the extra pages at the end, 3 pages written by a psychologist (this book was published by the APA, the American Psychological Association) is a note to parents and caregivers about how to to the following: create time for imaginative play, foster your child’s developing sense of self and identity, and help your child build empathy. So to me it’s more a book geared to the adults in children’s lives to encourage the above, something with which I do agree. I do think many young children will enjoy the text and pictures in this book but if reading with/to kids I’d definitely ask questions and try to encourage a discussion about how the child(ren) feel about the various activities, what they like to do and think about, etc. etc. etc.… (más)

This picture book has its pages filled with vibrant colors along with cute little chicks. It tells the tale of five little chicks that have been left alone until their mothers come home with food. They are left alone to worry nervously and be scared of the endless possibilities that they will encounter. Such as; never seeing their moms again because either they will never come back or they will be eaten by a wolf. This story might cause some young readers to become frightened and worried for the little chicks. The fear of abandonment and the possibility of the wolf eating the chicks in turn may cause some anxiety for some children. This book would need an adult reader with some reassuring tactics while reading. It does however keep the reader intrigued and in turn has a happy ending. The author, Geraldine Collett currently holds the position of Business Development Manager at Global Footprints which is in London, United Kingdom. Coralie Saudo is an illustrator of children’s books. She has illustrated for books in English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and German just to name a few.… (más)
