Judd Cole

John Edward Ames writing as Judd Cole wrote 21 books in the Cheyenne series. This is book #16 and uses the historical fact of the orphan trains that were created to move homeless children from the eastern US to the Midwest where farm families need children to assist them with work.

In this novel, renegade Indians with the assistance of a corrupt military officer derail a train carrying orphans with the idea of holding them for ransom. The hero, Touch The Sky, is a Cheyenne who was raised as a white man but on returning to his tribe is recognized as a great leader and shaman creating jealous enemies within his tribe. I assume this is an on going story in the Cheyenne series as for there are many references to previous incidents involving Touch The Sky and his enemies. Some of the plot is so far fetched that I will not be looking for any other titles in this series any time soon.… (más)
