Sometime in the 1950s Joe Rook stumbles out of the Sahara with an empty bullet-pierced wine skin containing 30 $1,000 bills and makes his way to Barcelona. He is taken for a spy, informer, crook, revolutionary and mercenary. He meets the love of of his life but must convince her family, while getting his passport back from the American government, which entails creating a criminal event about which he can feed information to the American government.
