The King's Arrow is the name the hero is known by. His real name id Dane Norman and he works for the British Crown in late 18th Century New Brunswick protecting the crews of men who are employed int the forests cutting huge pine trees to be shipped to England where they will be used as masts in British ships. Rebels who it is suggested are Acadians seeking revenge for the Expulsion of the 1750's by harassing the logging crews and Loyalist settlers with the final hope of having New Brunswick join the United States.
Dane Meets Jean Sterling and is immediately smitten. Before they can get together, she is kidnapped by the leader of the "slashers" who are the rebels opposing the cutting of the pine trees. Fortunately Dane has Indigenous friends who rescue her but must leave her to warn others of a rebel attack. Again let on her own and placed in danger again, she flees on snowshoes into a winter storm.

While full of coincidence, the story line is fast moving and moves from crisis to crisis quickly. Despite the dated language and racist language and attitudes, this was a fun read.
If you live in or are familiar with New Brunswick, you will recognize the descriptions of the place names in the St. John River Valley.… (más)
