Elise Chidley

I enjoyed this book. It's a quick, light read but contains very real issues. I liked the authors humor and watching Lizzie progress. I feel a good novel has to show the character grow in some way and watching Lizzie transform and overcome her demons was satisfying.

The reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five was solely for the last few pages. The way the author finished this book seemed to me like she decided she was done writing and wanted to give a quick wrap up. After 360 pages of build up, it felt like she didn't know how else to end it, so she did so extremely abruptly. It left me feeling like the ending was lacking. I really enjoyed this novel, though the romantic devices were a bit formulaic. Still, the story of a woman getting back on her emotional feet - re-discovering herself after a major battle with depression - that was a story that really resonated with me. But as the author said herself, she wanted to "write something uplifting about a topic that's not covered very much". I found myself weeping during some scenes just because I had been there. And I was happy that in the end Lizzie gets what she really wants.… (más)
