I love "What If" stories, so I had to pick this one up when I saw it on sale. It's not exactly what I had expected it to be, but it was still a fairly good read. It really helps if you're familiar with the Marvel Universe; otherwise, you're going to miss a lot of the in-jokes and random characters that show up in the story (Reed Richards, Sue Storm, who Mr. Watts really is, etc.).

I really don't know how I feel about the art. At times I thought it really fit the mood of the story. At other times, I thought that it just looked messy and dark.

The three stories of Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Daredevil are all interwoven together, but I think the best of the three was definitely Matt Murdock's.

The story takes place shortly after Marvel's Civil War event, but you don't really need to know what happened there to be able to follow this. Namor, the ruler of Atlantis, is informed that a terrorist act that took place in the United States was perpetrated by some of his subjects. Namor goes to clear his kingdom's reputation, as well as his own, but it's never that simple.

Namor had a lot of depth to him; too often, he's just this shallow background character who is just used as a cardboard villain or ally, depending on the whim of the author. I'm glad to see that he's finally getting more attention and development, since he's one of my favorite characters.

I'm not one to give five star ratings often, but I loved this collection. This is one of those trades that I can easily imagine reading more than once.

Second read and just as impressive as the first time. If you're not at all familiar with the Marvel Universe, you'll miss some of the jokes; for example, Reed and Susan Richards (Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four) are both doctors working together in a hospital.

I picked this up because I love Michael Gaydos' art. It's not a very strong book, though. The tales have an interesting premise, but it overall just felt too gimmicky and the writing is nothing spectacular.
