I was intrigued by the blurb of this romantic mystery, and I was curious to see whether it would skew more towards romance or mystery - the blurb certainly leaned towards the romance side of things. Ok - onto the book! Miranda and Shepard are great characters, but Dave the dog is the one who really stole my heart. There's enough twists to keep me invested in the mystery, and the plot moves along smoothly enough that if you're not careful you'll blow right through this story. If you want to get away from reality with a fun short book, this is it! The publisher's blurb is a good set-up but doesn't really tell how much fun this is. I think it's even better when narrated by Jenny Hoops at 1.2 speed so as to appreciate her perky rendition of the loony characters! Absolutely loved it in print, and even more so in audio!… (más)

What a mess! Shep and Miranda enjoy a canoe trip up the river with Shep's professor friend and some students and later get involved in the mysterious disappearance and probable murder of one of the doctoral students. Shep's overbearing mother and Miranda's overbearing mother (her dad is a really nice guy) have totally hijacked their possible wedding to the point where the couple had an acrimonious split even before buying an engagement ring. Shep can't bear the thought of getting another guide dog in the wake of the explosion that killed his best buddy instead of himself, but a kitten with some surprising abilities enters the scene. It's not a grim story and there's plenty of laughs. I loved it!
Even if you haven't read the earlier book, there's enough referencing to keep you from missing out. I loved the first book, so when I saw this one on NetGalley I requested and received a free ebook copy from Books Go Social via NetGalley. Thank you!… (más)

The story unfolds bit by bit at a rather steady pace that escalates in intensity and danger. All of the characters truly are! From the ogling older ladies of the neighborhood to the vamp at the library to the incredible guide dog to the pair of main characters. Follow the fun, get caught up in the danger, feel the grief, and rejoice at the ending! Another great read by the author of Schifflebein's Folly and Duby's Doctor! And every bit as surprising!
