To this end, Elizabeth Cole and Ros Morley have brought together accounts of individual experiences of testimony that collectively may act as a resource to encourage discussion, study, and meditation of the subject and, as a consequence lives may be lived more Quakerly as part of a faithful and inspired community.
Jonathan Dale, in the chapter on Testimony, declares it to be about bearing witness to the truth. “It is not,” he says, “a question of opinion or reason or hearsay—of what I think, or what someone else has told me. It is about affirming our own experience of something as true, as fact, as surely known. It is not a form of words, but a mode of life based on the realization that there is that of God in everyone, that all human beings are equal, that all life is interconnected.”
