De Perfecte Ramp is de nogal krakkemikkige vertaling van X-events: The Collapse of Everything. Het boek werd al in 2011 geschreven door John Casti, een hoogleraar in de wiskunde. Hij werd vooral bekend door zijn werk bij Rand Corporation en zijn bijdrages aan de complexiteitswetenschappen. In de Perfecte Ramp borduurt hij daar op voort door de oorzaak van extreme gebeurtenissen bij complexiteit te leggen.
X-events zijn uitschieters die complementair zijn aan ‘normale gebeurtenissen’, schrijft Casti in de inleiding. Vrijwel direct schiet dan de associatie met Extremistan en Mediocrestan uit het werk van Taleb door het hoofd. Is een X-event dan ook hetzelfde als een Black Swan?
