This book uses lovely illustration to capture the imaginations of young audiences. It tells the story of young prince Siddhartha as he journeys from a life of ignorant bliss to a state of wisdom about man's sufferings. It is a short enough read to be read in one class period and then discussed. It can be used to introduce students to the culture of India and specifically Buddhist thought.

The informational book on Buddhism gave a great overiew of the religion in a way children would be able to understand. All the information was accurate and the author is a practicing Buddhist.
The illustrations were critical to the story because they helped define the words and define the setting. Children reading this book will be attentive because of the pictures. The character of Buddha came alive through the illustrations.
