Gladiator Jr. or a YA GoT!
Highly evocative I can see this as a film or better as a Netflix series.

Imagine GoT without all the gratuitious sex, violence, POVs and family trees... Famlified (a portmanteau of focussed and simplified) yet still with the political intrigue and lavish settings... And DRAGONS!

The heart and soul of this story are the two half-brothers Aric and Fadan. Modern Family has got nothing on the SNAFU environment these two find themselves in.

Fadan is the son of the evil emperor Tarsus, Aric the ill-treated son of their mother Cassia's first love Doric (Roman for Dork, he's a deadbeat poet). The brother's bond is sorely tested when Aric is sent into exile to become a Dragon Hunter (basically beyond The Wall in GoT). Meanwhile his brother dabbles in forbidden magic, while his mother pulls strings at court as rebellion simmers in the background.

After a lengthy prologue the POV basically oscillates between the two siblings as they come of age - thankfully both narratives (ala Jon Snow and Arya/Sansa Stark) are equally interesting.

Could use a little tidying up in terms of modern dialogue (binoculars) and somewhat dodgy magic system and motivations but overall, a hidden gem just made for the silver screen.
