(1/7/14) This was a sweet book which I really enjoyed. Although it had some serious issues, overall it was a quick, easy read which should appeal especially to fans of Sarah Dessen. I loved the idea of the Bake Club and watching the friendships between the six characters gradually develop, despite their lies and secrets. The individuals in the group each had their own issues, but were basically a nice bunch of teens, although I liked some more than others. However, my two favourite members were the boys, Mac and Jasper. Mac being the bad boy with the warm heart and Jasper, the good boy trying to be bad. However, I really had an issue with most of the adults in this book, except Miss Anderson, who I genuinely liked because she was the only one who really cared for the teens under her care.

Each chapter of the book starts with a recipe, giving an introduction to the chapter, which was a great idea even though I am not a fan of baking. The recipes gradually become more difficult, and I can see many readers attempting to make some/all of them at their leisure.

This was a great debut by Katy Cannon and I am looking forward to seeing what she serves up next.

(24/6/16) I enjoyed "Love, Lies and Lemon Pies" just as much the second time as I did the first. It is a quick read with very likeable characters, and the issues in the book prevent it from being too sickly sweet. Overall, a delightful read.

15 year old Lottie is really struggling to come to terms with the death of her beloved dad, and her mum's reaction - hoarding to the extent that the whole house and garden is filled with useless junk and rapidly becoming uninhabitable. Lottie is ashamed and frightened that school will find out the extent of her mum's problem, so she pretends to be coping, but her school counsellor insists that she joins in an after school activity. She joins the new Bake Club with a group of other year 10 pupils, and passes on the skills her dad taught her to her new friends. There is a sweet love interest with Mac, seen by many as a bad boy but Lottie comes to see him in a new light.

This is a lovely story about friendship and teenage issues with a bit of romance, recommended to those who enjoy young adult fiction - it probably wouldn't convert those who don't). The romance portrayed is just kissing. There are hints that some of Lottie's classmates may be going a bit further sexually, but nothing explicit.

I became quite concerned that Lottie, Mac and the rest of the Bake Club would be able to come to terms with their situations, or sort their problems out where that is possible.

A quick and enjoyable read, with a few recipes thrown in.

Katy Cannon has another book coming out next month, which focuses on Lottie's classmates, and I'd love to read it.

In Short
- Brilliant and very strong characters.
- Unique and heart warming story.
- Fun baking side to the story.

In Long
Loves, Lies and Lemon Pies has such a bright and fun cover which is complimented by a fun blurb which gives an insight into Lottie's world. A world which is full of difficulties. I just had to see how Lottie navigated these challenges in her life.

This book has such brilliant characters, especially Lottie, the main character, and Mac. I really wanted to find more out about them from within a few pages. Together they are a very entertaining pair who I couldn't get enough of.

The storyline is a heartwarming one and one which i didn't want to put down, every time I had to put it down I would be excited about picking it up again. I feel like I went on a personal journey with Lottie as she faced these challenges and overcome so many problems in her life.

The baking side of the book brings a very fun side to the story and was really unique and different. It also made me more interested in baking, I need a baking partner like Mac!

Final Thoughts
Loves, Lies and Lemon pies is such a fun and thoroughly entertaining book which was written in a brilliant way.
