Of course, as the author admits himself, this is not a history of a particular housing scheme, just his childhood memories of it, and consequently a somewhat idealised account of what I suppose most of us would call a 'rough area'; neither is the author, obviously, a storyteller of Robert Louis Stevenson's rank. Still, it's a nice wee book for a time when your moods needs a bit of uplifting by something maybe occasionally verging on, but never really succumbing to, becoming twee.
