Dr. John Frank Cady was an American educator and Foreign Service Officer. During his long career, he was one of the most well-respected South-East Asia specialists in the English-speaking world. After undergraduate studies at DePauw University, he received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1929. He taught at several colleges and universities, both in the U.S. and also in Burma (then still a British colony). After teaching at the University of Rangoon from 1935 to 1938, Professor Cady returned to the U.S. He was teaching, and also serving as Dean, at Franklin College in Indiana at the beginning of WWII. After the U.S. became involved in that conflict, he interrupted his academic career to serve his country from 1943 to 1945 as a research analyst in the Office of Strategic Services. After the war, he served in various roles in the U.S. State Department for several years before returning to academia. Professor Cady taught at Ohio University from 1949 to 1971, when he retired as Professor Emeritus of history. He was the very first recipient of OU's Distinguished Professor award in 1959.… (más)
