It is a picture book, but the text ans illustrations are meant to be read by older children and tweens. Excellent glimpse into the development of the airplane, but the writing is a bit dry. What makes this book interesting are the illustrations, period photos and explanatory diagrams.

First to Fly encompasses the lives of Wilbur and Orville Wright and how they invented the Airplane. In the book we learn about their business endeavors and the struggles they faced throughout their lives. The audience sees two innovative brothers face challenges and and failure until they finally got their airplane to fly. The lesson I learned is that failure is okay, it can only make the final outcome stronger.

This book follows the ups and downs of the inventions of the Orville brothers. It gives background knowledge of their family life and learn how the boys dropped out of school to take care of their sick mother. They failed countless times trying to invent the airplane, but never once did they give up! This book is fascinating because it shows real life stills of their lives. I compared this book to "To Fly".
