In Flanders Fields: And Other Poems of the First… por Brian Busby
There are many excellent WWI poems written by soldiers who died in service but unfortunately, many of the poems in this book are not enjoyable.
Curious - in every sense of the word! - Canadiana. Brian Busby reads his way through an eclectic array of genres spanning a generous century-plus of Canadian publishing. Scholarly, thought-provoking, and often very funny reviews shine a light on the forgotten tomes in the darker corners of the library. Some deserve their fate; some don't, and Busby doesn't hold back his punches, or his enthusiastic recommendations. Quotes throughout amuse, enlighten, awe, and occasionally horrify - the writer includes as his parting gift to the reader an excerpt from Donna Steinberg's over-hyped 1983 novel "I Lost it All in Montreal" which might well be a top contender for Worst Sex Scene in a Canadian Novel Ever. Yes, indeed! My ultimate verdict: As far as books about books go, this is a gem.… (más)
