good book about bothy's. I liked Wild Winter more.

I hadn't expected a novel. It doesn't say anywhere. Although I had guessed from the reading extract in "Bothy Tales". I like the characters, the plot, the message. And especially the descriptions of animals and the countryside. The language is even more important than the plot in preserving the Highlands. Go write another one!

Not so much different from the "Last Hillwalker". Glad he wrote it since he did have some more tales worth telling, but maybe not all of them. Glad to hear Burns changed concept for n° 3 (which I already have at home).

This book is so out of the extraordinary that anyone (who is not in the prime of their youths anymore) can relate to the questions asked and the deeds (not) done (any more). There is a lot of (welcome) understatement and a lot of good humour and the sort of (micro-)-adventures I would like to (be able to) go on when I'll have reached my sixties. As a matter of fact, I have just ordered his other (later) books. thank you Mr. Burns for this enjoyable read (and self-reflection!).
