3781. Stolen Valor: How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of Its Heroes and Its History, by B. G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley (read 9 Aug 2003) I read this to follow up on a statement in the book Vietnam Now A Reporter Returns (read 8 June 2003) that several thousand American prisoner GIs went over to the Nazis and fought for them. This book does say that--but it sources a book called World War II Super Facts, by Don McCombs and Fred L. Worth (Warner Books, 1983), page 382. If I find that book will it refer to another secondary source--or to documentary evidence? I found this an amazing book and though it is a right wing book, published by a Dallas publisher, I agreed with most of what the author says. He shows how many alleged Vietnam heroes are fakes, and his thesis is that most Vietnam veterans are normal people, that post traumatic stress claims are often an effort to get money, etc. The book is full of interesting things and seems carefully researched.… (más)
