Anne Buist

Psychologist, Isabel Harris, her husband and toddler recently arrived in Riley, a small rural town in NSW where her husband has been employed to fix the local hospital. Isabel sets up a mother-baby therapy group. The participants are from various backgrounds and don't hold much trust in each other, and they are all harbouring their own fears and secrets.

I thought "The Long Shadow" was quite a good little thriller. I liked the remote, slightly sinister atmosphere the author created, but I didn't like Isabel. As a psychologist, she was dealing with several issues of her own and I don't think she was the best person to lead the group. I also found the plot slow in parts, especially with all the group meetings, although it did ramp up near the end. There were also some twists and turns that kept me reading. Overall, an okay read but not a memorable one.… (más)
