1207. The Cardinal Stritch Story, by Marie Cecilia Buehrle (27 Jan 1973) This was a 1959 book, very uncritical, eulogistic, which I felt could have better honored its subject by greater objectivity. He had died May 26, 1958, so this was more of a eulogy than a biography. Reading it violated a guide I more or less follow, of not reading biographies written during a subject's life or immediately after the death of the subject. But of course there are exceptions. Though I don't know that I would have read A Beautiful Mind: The Life of Mathematical Genius and Nobel Laureate John Nash, by Sylvia Naser (read 19 July 2002) if I had known he was still alive; and not reading that would have been a mistake.… (más)
