This is a story that is as much about friendship and trust as it is about a developing relationship. Even though Mario and Carter are best friends, the issues they encounter when they decide to take things further are not easy to solve. They discover that ‘trust’ does not equal ‘trust’, and that compromise can be more difficult than it sounds.

Carter is a landscape foreman by day and a house-improver over the weekend. He has some real issues – in the form of an idiotic ex who made him suffer through anal sex, totally ruining the experience for him. It will take a lot more than wanting to make things work with Mario – Carter will need to scrape together every ounce of trust he has if he wants to give his friend what they both want. And when he does – they are both surprised with the result.

Mario is a top as well. While he wants a deeper relationship with Carter than he currently has, and takes the first step, he is also more scared of the long-term implications. Not that he lets those fears stop him. He worries a lot about losing his best friend – and it scares him enough to consider forgetting the physical aspect of their relationship. It takes Carter to make him see that their friendship and love comes first – the lust is just a bonus.

These two guys are great together. I enjoyed their interactions, their banter and the way they egged each other on just as much as I loved their increasing intimacy and tenderness. If you like ‘friends to lovers’ stories, and enjoy a tale of two tops working things out (mostly between the sheets) you may like this story.… (más)

After reading a short blurb for one of Ms Alanna Coca's novels and then wandering over to her website to discover she also writes under the name of Olivia Brynn, I experienced a few moments of indecision, not sure which of her e-books to pop into my shopping cart: one of the mainstream romances written as Alanna Coca, or one of the erotic novels penned as Olivia Brynn.

The storyline for Cover Story tipped the scales: an attractive middle-aged lady with a son in college reluctantly agrees to pose for the cover art of one of her kid sister's novels, reassured that the male model is gay.

Not much of a story, but for years I've been intrigued by the process of creating cover art and was hoping to learn a little more. In that I was a little disappointed. Just a few pages into this novella the two models are locked in orgasmic ecstasy and the fireworks continue for the rest of the book.

Straight, no-frills erotica with no pretensions to arty character development or clever plot twists. I found this pleasantly refreshing and thoroughly enjoyed the enthusiastic sex romp.

Having said that, kudos to Ms Brynn for her simple but moving description of first-time model Cate's diffidence and lack of confidence.

I’d heard about Carina Press and was interested to see what their books were like, so I was really pleased when they appeared on NetGalley and I got a chance to have a look at one.

The plot initially seems pretty simple – a story of damsel in distress, in comes a knight in shining armour to save her and after fighting the attraction between them she gives in and swoons at his feet. Just as I was about to dismiss the book as complete fluff however a twist came that changed my opinion of the book for the better.

In places the plot did take a back seat to the sex, whilst I had expected there to be sex in the book (the cover gave a strong hint of this) I wasn’t really expecting there to be quite as much as there was, particularly considering the slim size of the novella. It was at least pretty well written, I’m just not sure it was all needed for the book.

I liked Tessa, she was written as a strong and determined woman fighting for her place within a male dominated world. I found that I could identify with her, and liked her determination. I liked Josh, but I wasn’t as swept away by him as I wanted to be.

Overall I enjoyed this book, it was a quick and fairly entertaining read. I like the fact that Carina Press is publishing novellas in eBook form, I’ll certainly be giving a few more a go I think.… (más)
