The second insulation in the Naim Butler series has returned with another suspense. I received the ARC in an ebook format from the publisher.

I seemed to be in a fog throughout the story as to what was the character’s thoughts.

At some point in the novel I stopped keeping up with the characters or caring and just pressed on to finish the book.

There is so many grammatical errors that made my reading very difficult and not enjoyable. I hope that it was all corrected in it’s final publication.

I read Brooks’ previous story, “The Butler Christmas”, which was not an enjoyable read to me either, but it was more comprehensive than this one.

Brooks’ constant use of acronyms is muddling to say the least, and the ending felt unfinished. It’s evident that I am not a fan of Brooks, but I would like to see his writing mature and maybe one of his novels will “wow” me.

Rahiem Brooks takes his reader to the heart of Washington, D.C., where politics, a posh lifestyle, perversion, and corruption go side by side. Alternative facts, the influence of the POTUS, sex, money, and power are just means. Prosecutor and defense need to disentangle the web which they're invited to by their clients. In A Butler Summer, you meet Naim Butler's defense strategy takes him to the highest reaches of criminal justice--and political scandal. Naim Butler gets the unique chance to defend a psychopath in a capital murder case. Where students can learn a lot from books, it's talent and experience that count in a sensitive case like this. Naim is joined by newspaper editor, Brandy Scott.

As a reader, it took a long time to really get into the story. Brooks is well-informed, has true language skills, and is able to paint the psychopath murderer very well.

I received acopy of this book from Library Thing in exchange for a review.

This book could have done so much, but completely failed to deliver. I know it's an advance copy, but really, that many errors!? I had to re-read so many sentences to try and make them make sense. Even one of the characters changed first names and then back again. And don't even mention the completely unresolved "end". The book just stopped, I was looking for a finishing chapter and was left wanting. I only finished the book as it was a review copy, had I purchased it I would have returned it.… (más)
