David Brin is a scientist, writer, and public speaker. He was born in Pasadena, California, on October 9, 1950. Brin attended the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and later earned a doctorate at the University of California. He accepted a position as an engineer at Hughes Aircraft mostrar más Company. Brin is a former fellow at the California Space Institute and serves on several government and nongovernment advisory committees dealing with issues involved with technological growth. Brin has lectured all over the world on such topics as space flight, ecology, and the search for extraterrestrial life. Brin deals with global warming, the destruction of the ozone layer, and pollution of Earth. His 1987 novel, The Uplift War, received the Hugo Award and the Locus Award. Tierra por David Brin

Tierra se desarrolla en el año 2038, la Tierra sufre superpoblación superando ya los 10 mil millones, los recursos naturales son escasos, y mucha gente piensa que la población está al borde de un accidente masivo (se ha evitado la pandemia mundial a lo largos de cuatro décadas con consecutivos desarrollos alimenticios, el ultimo un cultivo de algas a nivel mundial). La población mundial esta al borde de la hambruna, que sufre los primeros efectos del calentamiento global (el bosque del Amazonas es casi un recuerdo, países como Bangladesh o ciudades como Venecia han desaparecido ante la crecida del mar dando lugar a millones de refugiados los cuales tras desaparecer sus hogares bajo las aguas sobreviven en el "Estado del Mar", un grupo de ciudades flotantes que surcan los mares de todo el mundo, o emigran a nuevas tierras disponibles a causa del deshielo como Groenlandia o siberia...… (más)

Jijo es un planeta prohibido, un mundo que se recupera lentamente de un grave desastre ecológico y al que, un millón de años atrás, los buyurs condenaron a permanecer cerrado a la colonización y al contacto interestelar.
