Molly faced not only her first day of kindergarten, but also her first time EVER riding on bus! And she wasn't going to be riding any ordinary bus; she was going to ride a school bus. Instead of being afraid of kindergarten, Molly's fear focuses on the bus ride to and from school. Her mother tries to reassure and comfort her, but ultimately Molly found a friend in a "big kid" who took the time to teach her the ropes. Perhaps this wouldn't always happen in real life, but the story, tips for riding a school bus, and map of the inside of a school bus could help a child prepare for their first ride.… (más)
Cute little book about some kids who go camping in the back garden with their Dad. Rhyming sentences will help younger readers along, and this would be a great introduction before a family camping trip (though my preference would be to camp in the lounge room rather than the back garden!)

While books on the subject of reading are few, books on the difficulty of learning to read are even more scarce. I have used this book with many reluctant and challenged readers who are inspired by the character's determination to read. We need more books which describe the arduous process of learning to read!
