This was such an interesting book - fun, fast-paced, with a unique storyline!

There was so much happening, and there was never a dull moment. You are introduced to different planets/species, telepathic dragons, space pirates, unique mental abilities, and so much more! I loved the two main characters, Miri and Leo. The connection between them was so well-done. I liked that their relationship didn't get bogged down by unnecessary drama but remained realistic, with both characters dealing with fears, doubts, and unresolved emotions that sometimes held them back.

Miri’s journey of self-acceptance was intriguing and kept me engaged. The world-building was innovative and vivid, with enough details to help me get a sense of the world. I was eager to explore the world with each turn of the page! However, I wished for more in-depth explanations about dragons, considering how important their role was in the story. I loved their unique abilities, especially the telepathy they used to teleport humans, but it was never clarified how they looked or where they came from. This book was my introduction to the Halcyon Universe series, so there might be more details about them in the previous two books. Nevertheless, I found it easy to follow the story without having to read the previous two installments.

The story was wrapped up well, and the unconventional happy ending for Miri and Leo felt perfect for them.

I’d recommend this book, especially if you’re looking for a fun, fast-paced sci-fi romance, with a unique storyline and lovable characters! I had fun reading it!

Thank you, LibraryThing, the publisher City Owl Press, and author Mindi Briar for the gifted copy! I received a free copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I received a digital ARC of this book and was really excited about the non-binary representation it promised. This is my honest review: Adrift in Starlight is a really fun and fast paced read that felt really unique compared to a lot of other popular books currently out there. The relationship the characters has with each other and how they develop throughout the book is really enjoyable and very much a "found family" feel. The LGBTQIA+ representation was pretty different and refreshing to see. The SciFi elements and worldbuilding were a main focus of the book that was really interesting, without being too complicated. This made it really easy read to dive in to as a reader. The plot, at times, does border on obsurd but I think as a reader it was best to just enjoy the ride and not think to much of it. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!… (más)

Dawn and Nox grew up on the rebel’s space station. Dawn is content to work in farming and food production, while her sister is a passionate soldier for the cause, each living their separate lives, until Nox injures herself and convinces Dawn to take her place in an upcoming mission. On a distant planet, Amy is a university student who is struggling to live up to her famous mother’s memory, so when she gets an offer to leave the studies that are making her miserable and join an expedition on another world, she jumps at the chance. Nobody expects the complications that will result from their choices.

I really liked this! I haven’t had the best luck with Early Reviewer books, but this was a very entertaining story, I liked the characters a lot, the universe is a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to reading more books in the series. I didn’t realize it was book 2 in a series until after I’d finished, so you don’t have to read book 1 first.

I liked it. Actually, I really liked it. Tai, Aisha, and the supporting cast are flawed and likable, and the story is unique and charming. Parts of the book are a little heavy-handed on current social issues in a way that didn't quite make sense if this book takes place 4,000 years in the future and assumes some things are shameful that seem incredibly out of place if so many other things are accepted, but taking that with a grain of salt, it's a fun jaunt of a book. (This is one of those books where it's hard to explain the issues without spoilers.) My biggest complaint, and it's not even a complaint, is that this is a YA book. It's not advertised that way, and it's maybe not meant to be one, but it is. I also wish there was more about the alien species. They're a huge part of the first portion of the book and then just disappear. I almost wish the book was just longer so the author could have explored some of the social issues and plot points further without feeling rushed, which would have helped the YA feel as well. Anyways, all that to say, this is a fast, fun read that made me smile and didn't cause too much anxiety. Once I get through some of my other TBR books, I'll probably read the second one to see what happens next.… (más)
