A gorgeous volume. It is tragic that no-one on Goodreads has seen fit to review this yet!

Bradley's volume contains the complete text of every one of the Gilbert/Sullivan operettas, complete with annotations in the margins, providing a useful contextual and historical overview. I recommend enjoying this alongside a music-biography of the works. The 20th anniversary edition contains impressive updates as well as including a couple of the early works previously excluded.

In this book, Bradley reassesses his earlier writing on Celtic Christian spirituality, this time with a more responsible and less romanticized understanding of the early Celtic cents. This is a career just book that refutes some of Bradley is on earlier writing, while also staying true to the best fruit of the stream of the faith. It sets a more balanced historical framework for this world. I think it is a courageous book, and extremely helpful to those of us who have been influenced by the Celtic way and continue to seek to live by it.… (más)

The author recovers the green heart of Christianity -- a God who clothes wildflowers and splendor; reminds Job of his humble part in the cosmic drama; and sends a cosmic Christ to ennoble and perfect all of creation. By plumbing the Bible, the writings of the early Christians and of the Celtic Christian church, and the testimony of Mystics through the ages, Bradley shows that a sacred world is at the heart of Christian belief.

The 1882 contribution to the English operetta by the partnership, the subtitle being "the Peer and the Peri." Strephon, a member of the Faerie world, wants to marry Phyllis, a nice girl with some money in mortal terms. But Phyllis is a ward of the English Chancery, and the Common Law and the House of Lords are arrayed against the romantic world of Faery. Both groups have some advantages, and the course of true love becomes beset. Gilbertian comedy ensues. The play is still staged now and again.
