Biografía breve

I grew up in the Netherlands (you can look up where that is on the map), where I spent my childhood riding my bike, catching tadpoles, and reading Pippi Longstocking and Roald Dahl books. I loved to read, and I loved to draw, too. My very favorite book was The BFG by Roald Dahl. I would read under the covers well past my bedtime, secretly hoping for the BFG to knock on my window.

But somewhere along the way (around my high school years), I sort of lost the passion for reading. It wasn't until I was given a paperback thriller many years later that I caught the reading bug again. After reading many, many mysteries and thrillers, I decided to try my hand at writing (I was pretty bad at it at first, to be honest). It took a long time before some of my short mysteries started appearing in small press magazines, which encouraged me to keep writing.

This book was really cute. It's a fun little mystery in a haunted, but definitely not spooky, hotel. Perfect for kids who scare easily. I didn't like it as much as I thought (and hoped) I would. It did give me some feels and make me tear up at the end though.

Set on an island not unlike Alcatraz, 3 seventh graders miss the ferry home from a field trip and have to spend the night. They have -plenty to keep them busy though- trying to figure out a decades-old mystery of a prisoner escape gone awry, hunting ghosts (the mother of one of the main characters had died recently), making a horror movie and avoiding the flock of ravens and the caretaker at the mansion who locks them up. When someone turns up dead that night, the stakes get high. This somewhat scary book is not too strong for ages 8-12 looking for something interesting for a Halloween read that even delves a little into mistreatment of prison inmates,… (más)
