What none of the promotion on this book mentions is that it only contains information from the original land patents, which were first issued about 1832. There are large areas in most townships which have no information. It does not have any family lands which were purchased from other than these first patents. My family moved to the area & first bought land in 1862. They were not listed because they bought some land from a land speculator and some land from a prior owner...sometimes the lands had changed hands several times in those first years.
I also notice that not all cemeteries are listed. In small print there is a notice that the cemetery names & locations were obtained from USGS or NationalAtlas.gov. I notice that quite a few church cemeteries are missing, including some from the 1800's.
My final regret is that the township names were not included. Yes, I know how to read a location from the Tier/Range/Section label, but my mind works better at remembering township names, and local news will often reference township locations.
There is little in this book that cannot be obtained online or from a plat book, including the neighbors, which this book makes much fuss about being useful for. I have found better neighbor information in plat books from 1873, 1890, 1906, etc, and have sometimes made my own spreadsheets of indices for townships relevant to my research. However, I must admit that having everything typed out is much easier than trying to read the handwriting on some old patents, or the small & abbreviated print on plat books.… (más)
