Hello! I'm a children's book illustrator based in the South West of England.

I have worked as an illustrator since I graduated from Falmouth University in 2007.

My publisher list includes Simon & Schuster, Nosy Crow, OUP, Little Tiger Press, Barrington Stoke and The National Trust. I am also the illustrator of the new ‘Mazy the Movie Star' picture book series written by Hollywood star Isla Fisher.

My latest solo author/illustrator book, ‘Tiny Crab is a Tidy Crab' published in 2022, recently won the Portsmouth Picture Book Award 2023. And I won the Lancashire School Library Service ‘Brilliant book Award 2023' for my young fiction book ‘Marv and the Mega Robot' written by Alex Falase-Koya.

I have also been shortlisted for many more this year, including the Indie Book Awards 2023 and The Alligators Mouth Award 2023.

Today's Zoom storytime theme was Responsibilities, hoping to stress the importance of picking up after we play. However, I think I just inspired the kids to make bigger messes. Hopefully, the moral was also noted.

Scary Mary ruled the roost. Other animals wanted to play with her, but she would scare them away. She put up signs and gates to keep them out. Scary Mary kept all the sunflower seeds to herself. The animals wanted to join her. Scary Mary shouted “No!”

When Scary Mary was all alone and had the barnyard to herself, she realized that being alone was very lonely. How will Scary Mary ever get the other animals to want to play with her again? You'll have to read this wonderful book to find out.

This is a debut book from Paula Bowles. This hilarious story will teach young readers about sharing and friendship. Vivid pictures of Scary Mary's frantic outbursts, will have kids giggling. Bullying is a big topic in schools, and this is a perfect way to teach a lesson about bullying. Parents and teachers can utilize this tool to open up dialogue and help children better understand how to deal with a bully.
