Biografía breve
Michelle Karl is an unabashed bibliophile and romantic suspense author. She lives in Canada with her husband and an assortment of critters, including a co-dependent cat, an unflappable bunny and an opinionated parrot. When she's not reading and consuming copious amounts of coffee, she writes the stories she'd like to find in her 'to be read' pile. She also loves animals, world music, and eating the last piece of cheesecake.

Missing Persons Investigator Lexie Reilly is traveling on a ferry boat to Newfoundland, searching for a missing girl (Maria) after she received a tip on where Maria could be. Lexie is attacked and is rescued by a man from her past, CIA Agent Shaun Carter. But what should be a 16-hour ferry trip becomes much longer when the ferry gets stuck in the ice. While on board, and after a few attacks on Lexie’s life, Lexie and Shaun team up to try to find Maria, and a human trafficking ring leader called the Wolf, who Shaun has been searching for. The tension mounts while they may all be stuck on the same ferry boat till help arrives…

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the setting on the boat, sailing through the icy water. Lexie was a feisty heroine. She and Shaun made a good couple and team. This was an exciting read with plenty of action and an interesting backdrop, on the ferry.

This is a new author for me. I thought she did fairly well. I agree with another reviewer that the cover doesn't quite match with the book--though a fair amount of time is spent in cars throughout the book. Christmas isn't really mentioned much in the book though, despite the cover and the title.

Natasha and Chris were engaged 12 years ago. Natasha's father broke them up. Since then, Chris has gone on to become an FBI agent and Natasha a NASA astronaut and mother. Chris finds Natasha injured on the side of the road with a gun nearby.

The story seemed a bit disjointed to me--which is realistic in that Natasha has amnesia so she really doesn't remember what's gone on, but a bit frustrating to the reader who is also trying to figure it out.

I guessed one of the characters's involvement in the scheme before it was revealed by the author and even predicted what he/she would do--though he/she went further than I'd anticipated--and there was actually someone else behind it that I hadn't guessed.

Chris re-finds his faith and discovers he has a daughter. Natasha relies on her faith and discovers her father definitely lied to her 12 years before. To be fair, the father realizes his mistakes, confesses them, and asks for their forgiveness. It was good to see growth in the characters.

A re-telling, with Cinderella as a somewhat nonplussed conjurer of dark magic. A fun and different take on the old story.

Winning a free copy of Fatal Freeze by Michelle Karl from a Goodreads contest, provided an interesting read. Although starting off with a lack of voice, and a little hard to get into, Fatal Freeze provides an interesting mystery that at the end is a little predictable yet worth the read.
