Sesame Street characters introduce numbers and counting concepts with fun child-centric page layouts. Readers and listeners will have fun finding, counting and relating to objects on each page. The book has the feel of non-fiction and a slight commercialized presence for children not familiar with Sesame Street or television.

This book is a very basic take on what sight is. I love how simple it is and that it uses language that young students will be able to understand. I like that there is not an overwhelming amount of information on one page. I also noticed diversity within the book that I loved because I believe that is extremely important for our classroom library. I loved that there were real images of kids and animals so that students can identify what these things really look like in real life. I also love that there was an activity at the end. I think it is so beneficial to get the kids involved in what they are learning which can help solidify these concepts into their long-term memory.… (más)

This is an informational book that teaches about weather and climate. The book ends by talking about the climate in North America. It picks a hand full of places to mention part of their climates. For example, "It is hot in southern Mexico." One thing I really like about this book is that the pictures have focused on women scientists. The reason this is so important is that most people view science jobs as being something only men can do. It is key that we show our students the representation that anyone and everyone is capable of having a job in STEM. I could use this in my classroom in small groups, to integrate science into reading groups.… (más)

The book Vibrations Make Sounds by Jennifer Boothroyd is a great information read about sounds for either a kindergartener or first grader. It would be a great intro/exposure to the structure of an informational text, as there is only a few features. The first feature of text would be the subtitles seen at the top of the page throughout the book. This could be explained to a kid that this is what the next section would be talking about. Another feature would be the side facts. This is also a great way to make the reader engaged in the book as well as learn more facts about sound. There was also vocabulary words in bold, this could be explained to the reader that these are important words. Lastly, the text had a glossary at the end of the read, where reading can find definitions for the bolded vocabulary words. The book also had an age appropriate thought provoking question at the end of the read. Overall, I think this book would be an appropriate information science picture book for kindergarten/first grade that can be used as an introduction of text features found in this genre.… (más)
