Although it only includes 150 cocktail recipes, it's often the first place I turn when I want to mix something new or an old favourite. The non-alcoholic drinks are great and shouldn't be overlooked, too.

Covering the most popular cocktails such as the martini, mint julep, sex on the beach and many others, "150 Classic Cocktails" does cover the classics and so much more.

This book covers the "old standards" such as the martini, the Russians, Sex on the Beach (even some non-alcoholic concoctions) as well as mixes I had never heard of before (Silk Stocking, E=MC2, Harvey Wallbanger). "150"'s recipes are divided into sections based on the main liquer ingredient of the drink. Vodka, gin, tequila, brandy, rum, whiskey, champagne and non-alcoholic sections make sure to cover all the basics (or what I like to call "entry points") of mixed drinks while piquing your interest in other, equally as impressive but lesser known libations.

"150 Classic Cocktails" is laid out with a drink recipe or two on the left page and a full color photo on the right page beginning with page 14 and ending on page 221. Pages 6 through 11 give a very brief introduction to the different spirits and some of the equipment.

If you're new to cocktails, have never tried them, or routinely sip Astronauts, hang out with a Clover Club, or slide with a Penguin, this book will show you some other drinks to throw back the next time you're feeling adventurous or at your next party. Impress those guests and your taste buds. However, those aspiring to be serious mixologists should look elsewhere. This book is mor e for the weekend entertainer or casual liquer drinker.
