Mary Blackwood

Of all the picture books I've read so far for this class, this was my favorite. It was adorable, the concept was quirky and original, and the illustrations were beautiful. Derek likes to knit, and his two brothers are real dinosaurs in all the sense of the word - they roar, they hunt, they're ferocious, and they wouldn't be caught dead knitting. But when the ice age hits, who are they going to turn to to stay warm and survive? Claw knitted sweaters and socks, that's what, and just like that, Derek is the one saving the day. I loved the story, which was written in clever rhyming format, and the illustrations were light, soft and fun (like Derek,) instead of dark and edgy like dinosaurs are usually supposed to be.
