In “Adam and Evil” by Jaid Black, Julia Cameron is tried of her overbearing father trying to set her up with workaholic men. When her dad’s man, Sam Adams, shows up at her Costa Rican home to escort her to NYC for Christmas, she’s furious at Sam and at her father for sending him.
Sam knows his high-powered boss wants him to marry his daughter, but Julia is not what he wants for a wife. She’s rude, opinionated, and not a pushover. After their plane crashes and they’re stranded together on a desert island, they soon realize it’s not a bad thing to be so much alike.
I liked the story, but surviving the plane crash and two days at sea swimming with sharks seemed a little unrealistic. By the time the H/h finally reached land, they were still in great shape, other than sunburn, and not sick at all.
Both Julia and Sam were strong-willed alphas. He was a dominant in life and in bed, and while she controlled her own life, she submitted pretty fast when it came to sex.
There are some unanswered questions. How did the plane seats leave the tube of the plane and turn into flotation devices? What happened to all the other passengers from the crashed plane? Were they rescued, or did they drown or be eaten by sharks? How will Julia and Sam work out the conflicts with their jobs (they live in separate countries) and his workaholic tendencies?
Anyway, I enjoyed the romance and verbal sparring between the H/h. They had strong chemistry and got along well once they realized they weren’t really enemies.

In “Holly” by Dominique Adair, Holly Broussard owns a bookstore in the French Quarter and loves it more than anything. Her life revolves around the store, and she avoids men like the plague. Though she’s a natural submissive at heart, she no longer participates in the BDSM and Master/slave lifestyle after her former master abused her and left scars on both her body and mind.
Real estate mogul Ethan Clarke has wanted Holly since he first met her at a bondage party the previous year. After he purchases the loan she has on her building, he makes her an offer she can’t refuse: spend the weekend with him in a Master/slave relationship and consider the loan wiped clean, or somehow pay him a lot of money in rent which would equal over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
I really liked Holly and Ethan. She’s strong and savvy in her professional life, but she can be submissive and obedient when she trusts the man she’s with. Ethan is patient and understanding, knowing all about her abusive ex. The couple didn’t talk much, but their emotions were always front and center during every sex scene, which there were plenty of.
Though I liked the book and the characters, I didn’t understand the real estate laws. Holly owed one hundred grand on her loan, but in order to purchase it, Ethan had to pay that amount plus another one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to the original loan holder. It was his choice to pay that extra money, so he could hold the deed and title, so why would she be required to pay that extra money back to him since she had no say in him buying her loan in the first place? The whole scenario didn’t make sense to me.

In “His Christmas Cara” by Shiloh Walker, Eben Marley runs his advertising business with an iron fist. He doesn’t care about his employees or the holidays in favor of making money. Lots and lots of money. Though he secretly cares for the administrative assistant he’d used and since avoided a few years earlier, he doesn’t realize how lonely he really is until he’s visited by three Christmas ghosts ala A Christmas Carol.
Cara Winston gave in to temptation three years earlier and spent one amazing night in her boss’s bed, only to be brushed aside and transferred to another department the next day. Even after the horrible way he’d treated her, she’s still in love with him but resigned to the fact that he will never change or treat her as she deserves. When he shows up at the homeless shelter where she volunteers, she thinks maybe a Christmas miracle is in the works.
This is my favorite story of the three. At first, Eben is a cold, heartless scrooge who’s hurt a lot of people without ever realizing it. After seeing how his selfish choices had affected others in his life, he does his best to make amends and his generosity knows no bounds. Eben and Cara are great together. They have a lot of chemistry but past hurt and pain is still right below the surface. I love redemption stories, and it was fun watching Eben finally learn the meaning of Christmas.
4.5 Stars

All of the stories were well edited with no typos from what I noticed. The sex scenes were detailed and super hot, as it should be in erotica. I enjoyed this anthology and I’m glad I read it.

In “Turn Up the Heat” by Sherrilyn Kenyon (book 5 in the BAD series), Allison George wins the Heroine Hideaway sweepstakes and flies to a tropical island to enact the plot of her favorite romance novel. While there, she meets Vince and her safe, planned fantasy goes awry.
Vince Cappelleti is a mob hitman on the run from the “family.” His old childhood friend Z, now a rich and legit businessman, smuggles him out of the US and hides him on his island. Vince knows the mob will eventually catch up with him, so he keeps to himself and avoids people, but he’s bored and lonely. Then he meets Allison, a sweet woman who’s far too good for him.
Allison and Vince are in lust at first sight. I wish the novella would’ve been longer to give more detail about Vince’s past and to show the H/h falling in love, but at least there’s attraction to build their relationship on.
The head hopping annoyed me, but I managed to figure out whose POV I was reading in easily enough. I’m a big fan of Ms. Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series, but I haven’t read many of her BAD books. From what I know of the series, the BAD agency didn’t play a big role in this book, and I felt a little lost during the climax because I didn’t know who some of the people were, people who’d surely played a bigger role in the previous stories.
Still, this is a good, fast-paced action/adventure romance.

In “Hunter’s Oath” by Jaid Black, a civilization of Vikings flourishes beneath the surface of the earth and has done so for thousands of years. It’s custom for bride-hunters to go aboveground and find suitable wives to steal, so the men can bid on the women at the auction block.
As the leader of the Viking sector of Hannu, Lord Johen Stefsson only cares about helping his people and trying to make peace with his corrupt king. Though he’s not in want of a wife, especially an Outsider (a woman from aboveground), the naked blonde woman on the stage captures his attention.
Sofia Rowley flew to Alaska to attend her brother’s funeral, and then found herself kidnapped and hauled to a cabin in the snowy mountains. Her strange captors transported her underground, and she soon winds up married to the hottest, biggest man she’s ever seen.
Johen and Sofia are interesting characters. He’s totally smitten with her at first sight, and it’s so much fun to see a big, burly man fall head over heels for a woman. Sofia longs for freedom but can’t deny the happiness she’s found in Johen’s arms.
Though the novella ends with a HEA, there are loose ends concerning the bride-hunters’ punishment and the revolution that’s going to take place in New Sweden. If not for that (and a few typos), I would’ve rated this story with 5 stars because I really enjoyed it.

In “The Warlord Wants Forever” by Kresley Cole (the prequel to the Immortals After Dark series), Nikolai Wroth died as a human three hundred years earlier and awoke a vampire. As a forbearer, a turned human, he willingly serves the full-blooded vampire who turned and has pledged his loyalty to the vampire faction, which is made up of other forbearers. None of them know anything about vampire history or the history of other supposedly mythological creatures, and they’re desperate for information. He doesn’t breathe, his heart doesn’t beat, and he cannot feel sexual desire. Then he meets Myst, a strange woman who changes everything. She’s his Bride, and he has to have her.
Myst is a Valkyrie and is always used as bait by her sisters to catch and kill their enemies. Valkyries and vampires are mortal enemies, and she finds it hilarious Wroth doesn’t know that. Instead of giving him the information he and the faction needs to survive, she teases him and bloods him (she makes his dead-like body respond to her), and then leaves him in a state of sexual torment for five long years. When he finally catches up with her, the furious vampire will finally claim her as his own.
I liked Wroth for the most part, but I didn’t like Myst. She was selfish, cruel, and so hardened that she kept her gentleness far from the surface. She didn’t care how much she hurt Worth and wouldn’t apologize even when she felt a little guilty. Her Valkyrie sisters were just as slutty and heartless, but I hope a lot of if was just act.
I’ve heard great things about this series, and this is the first IAD book I’ve read. Unfortunately, I found it confusing. The history of the Lore was scattered throughout the story and wasn’t straightforward. I didn’t understand the animosity between the warring species and why they warred within themselves.
I plan on reading the other books, and hopefully, I’ll understand them better than I did this one.

The three stories were okay.
I had already read the 3rd story by Kresley Cole a while back and I liked it best.
All three stories could have been better, but each had their own special flavors for the reader to enjoy.
