This is a charming book. The story line is simple, and engaging. The illustrations are humorous, colorful and a perfect accompaniment to this simple tall tale or folk tale. Residents of New Hampshire, as well as Maine and Vermont would be particularly interested in this book.

A story of five extraordinary sisters with supernatural abilities working in New Hampshire with newly discovered granite. One of the sisters was such a great stonecutter that she was able to make a real-live baby out of granite. None of them know how to care for a baby however and the story shows all the silly things they try to make him happy. A little girl from the valley comes to them and offers her help and saves the entire state from his loud crying by soothing him with things a baby needs.
The story is very silly but entertaining.
