An excellent primary source on this subject.
Not one that many would enjoy, but fits my genre of 'untold' stories of vast proportion.
RW and I read article in Michigan History Magazine about Chester D. Berry and his story of the explosion of the Sultana in 1865.
Somewhere in my stacks is the book I chased down from the 90's - "Disaster on the Mississippi" - Salecker, but not yet read.
Forward by David Madden, nearly rants about this being the worst maritime disaster in the U.S. and among the top events of U.S. fatalities - yet ignored, ignored, ignored. Books written haven't raised it to consciousness yet. At this point, it's "history" as they say - at that point it was poor communications, end of long Civil War, just days after Lincoln's assassination.
Reprint of the 1892 reminiscences collected by Berry. Most are repetitive, but maybe that's much the point - it was horrendous for so many.
Read the suggested ones aloud with RW, then read thru ALL of them.
