Biografía breve
I've been a journalist for more than 20 years, and speak about social topics no one else likes to talk about, like murder-suicide and date rape, at conferences around the country. I've spoken at Johns Hopkins University; UC Berkeley, California; and was thrilled when I was invited to give a TEDx talk in 2013.
I love investigative reporting and am writing my fourth book, Pretty Little Killers, due out in June.

My last book, The Savage Murder of Skylar Neese, with coauthor Geoff Fuller, was released in February 2014.

I was once an Associated Press stringer, in 1994, and West Virginia Public Radio aired my audio piece about the 2006 Sago Mine Disaster, which was pretty cool. When I have free time, I blog at my website, and contribute pieces to The Daily Beast and The Huffington Post.

I've won a few awards for my writing while reporting for and editing the following newspapers: The Cumberland Times-News; The Tracy Press; The Dominion Post; The Buckhannon Record Delta; The Kingsville Record; The Preston County Journal, and The Panther Press.

Two teenager girls murder their "best friend" 15 year old Skylar Neese. This look at both the crime, as well as the lives of teenage girls growing up in West Virginia is riveting and very sad.

Link to full review below! While the story is interesting, the authors took some liberties with the story when trying to fill in gaps. When a book is non-fiction, I feel that conjectures of what 'the car ride might have been like for the girls' is not welcome. Also, a lot of emphasis was placed on possible lesbian love affairs when there was no evidence other than teenage gossip. Again, I prefer my non fiction to be not fiction or gossip. rel="nofollow" target="_top">See full review on The Book Disciple… (más)

A sixteen year old girl is missing. She was last seen by her two best friends, Shelia and Rachel when they sneaked out for a night of joy riding. Shelia and Rachel both claim that they dropped Skylar off a few blocks from home before midnight...

The police know there is more to the story, but they have no evidence to support their hunch. Months go by, and still no word from Skylar. Rumors are rampant that she ran away with a boy, but no one close to her believes that. The police don't believe that.

As the investigation continues, the Shelia and Rachel's stories seem to come apart at the seams...and the police never expected the truth that would soon be revealed coming...

The murder of 16-year-old Skylar Neese by her 2 best friend, Rachel and Sheila. It is heinous and disturbing that 2 teenage girls could, in cold-blood, kill their close friend, and then go on as if nothing ever happened. For 6 months, they just went about their lives, until Rachel finally confessed about what happened. This book was well-written and she developed each character to be real people, ones that could be related to in real life. She talked about events from all sides, giving a glimpse into how these girls felt and behaved. I enjoyed this book and thought it was a good look into this horrendous event in the life of Skylar Neese and her loved ones.… (más)
