Bruce Berger came to Aspen in the fifties and has been a friend and devotee of the Festival ever since. He is the author of The Telling Distance (winner of the Western States Book Award and Colorado Book Award), Notes of a Half-aspenite, A Dazzle of Hummingbirds, Hangin' On, There Was a River, mostrar más Almost an Island, and Facing the Music. Randalf, the valiant, goes to the home of Bumbo the Hahbit. He relates the terrible tale of the destruction of Quirkwood by the dragon, Schmaug. Bumbo is reluctant to venture forth into the world filled with darkness and evil to recover a stolen treasure. But he’s sallied forth into this bold adventure by a band of silly dwarves. Unable to open the porthole at Misty Mountain, Harry Plodder from the Hogwash Institute of Wizardry comes to their aid. With silly incantations he clears the way. Bumbo is almost devoured by the giant Slallum, but he saves himself with silly riddles and the ring of invisibility. They also trick Smax the Destroyer with Krispie Kreme(TM) donuts. They enter the inner chamber of Schmaug the Terrible. Barely surviving the dragon’s fiery breath, they kill him and retrieve the stolen treasure. Randalf and Bumbo refuse any share. They choose to end the worms of greed and avarice. A delightful comic spoof that’s fun for all!… (más)

Art travelogue part history lesson of the author's experiences in Baja California.
It was nice to read about some of the sleepy little towns and the characters who live there.

Nice layout and formatting of information on various types of humminbirds and where they are found around the world. A great source for children and teachers who are curious about hummingbirds or conducting a study on birds.
