This was a DNF. I’m not sure if the DNF is for the narration, or the book itself. While listening to this on a car trip, it felt like I was plugged into the middle of the story and was lost. I got about 30-35 minutes into this before I said OK I’m done. This is normally the type of book that I like but it feels like I woke up in the middle of a video game somebody else was playing. I might like this better if I read it instead of listen.

Better than expected

I gave it five stars because it was page turner, and in the end was better than expected. You can't beat that right? I love books that surpass my expectations. Towards the end a lot of things begin to fall into place. That's where the depths of the story are revealed so have patience and....wait for it.

Well written novel

This was a fresh take on a futuristic world run by artificial intelligence. The writing flowed well. The main character was complex and realistic. The only reason I rated the novel four stars was because some of the characters' thought were a bit tedious. I wanted to get to the action, but sometimes the characters just hashed decisions and thoughts and feelings to death.

The author did an interesting thing with the POV. Part of the story was written as a book, told from the best friend's perspective. It told the back story of how this AI, this entity called The Genesis, came into existence. While the back story was certainly informative and showed the creativity of this future world, it did get heavy to read. But even so, I was still astounded.

A thrilling read.

The plot was well thought out and intricate.

I did feel like the ending was anticlimactic.

Gory descriptions of violence and a few swear words. No on page sex.
