Franklin Le Van Baumer

4116 Intellectual Movements in Modern European History, edited by Franklin L. Baumer (read 6 Jan 2006) This is a 1965 book which I have had for a long time but had never read. There is a chapter on the Renaissance, the Reformation, Galileo, "Cold Philosophy," The Enlightenment, Marxism, Darwinism, Freudianism, and Existentialism, each by an author I had never heard of except the chapter on Freud is by Thomas Mann, and it was probably the most understandable of the chapters in the book. Back in November of 1987 I read a couple of books on intellectual history which I was quite smitten with (especially European Intellectual History from Leonardo to Hegel, by Roland N. Stromberg) . But this book did not "speak" to me so I guess I am dumber now than I was then. Besides, some of the articles in this compilation are quite dated.… (más)
