Not a bad spin on the original. Not bad at all

This book does follow the basic premise of the original but a wild turn.. It is easier to read as writing style is more current. I did find the multiple plots and characters mind-boggling at times. The author does a good job of ending all the plot lines. Overall an interesting read

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

This is the story of a young man who is framed and sent to jail and finally sells his soul to the "Devil" in exchange for vengeance. I found myself sort of disappointed initially because the book starts off in a rush but it slowed to a more moderate pace within a couple chapters and I found myself being sucked in.

The authors did a good job of weaving together such a complicated story. There are so many things going on at any given time that it's almost too much for an individual reader to keep track of but the writing is smooth and in the end all story lines are neatly tied up. That being said, my only major complaint was with the amount of characters. They all seem to be necessary but it is really hard to keep track of who's married to who, who's cheating with who, and basically who is who.

Overall this is an entertaining read and you will not be sorry you picked it up. You'll be wondering throughout the book how all these things the Count is doing will exact revenge but by the end you will see the masterful brilliance behind the web he is weaving.

Note: I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the intrigue and convolutions of revenge and how it often goes astray. It has been decades since I read the original Alexandre Dumas book. This was a very good stretch of the imagination on his original theme. Although there are many characters in this novel I found it easy to keep track of who was who and why they were on the Count's "hit list". I forced myself to set aside any prejudice for plagiarism in tales while reading and enjoyed it for it's own sake I do give credit to the author for basing his work on a famous novelist. I'm sure it was due more to his marketing people as I believe authors are very possessive of their creations. Most of our imagination is based on our previous experiences and wonders to which we've been exposed. If you're looking for an accurate historical piece this is not what you had in mind. This will work for most readers even the younger generation especially as it has "vampires" in it. Thank you for the trip Matthew.… (más)
