This story was very informative of the different types of customs that take place for Thanksgiving. The author writes about how Thanksgiving originated, but also informs readers of different traditions that happen for different countries. The pictures in this book compliment what the author has written. Though it is wordy, I think many students will find the different customs interesting. I would read this book to my students before letting out for the Thanksgiving holidays.

This is a very well written and illustrated book. It summarizes the traditions of thanksgiving among the many cultures of the world. It refers to how the Greeks, Romans, Native Americans, and first Pilgrims celebrated a time of thanks for successful crops and food. The author gives a minor history of how the first Thanksgiving began with the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe in 1621.

This would be a great book to read to a class around Thanksgiving. It shows the caring relationship that two very different groups of people can have when sharing a common belief.… (más)

This tells the story of the first Thanksgiving in more detail, so it's good for older children. It begins with brief descriptions of harvest festivals in ancient Greece, Rome, and Israel, and the traditions of European farmers. The story of Thanksgiving in the US tells of the hardship of the pilgrims and Puritans, their progress as settlers, their friendship with Native Americans, and the story of how Thanksgiving became an official holiday. Beautiful oil paintings accompany the text.

This book is mainly about the history of the first U.S> Thanksgiving, but it also goes into a fair amount of detail about ancient harvest festivals throughout the world in history. Alot of good facts in this book, not your generic Thanksgiving book.
If you are trying not to expose your children to other faiths, you may want to screen this one first, or simply skip a few pages
