From the opening blood soaked chapter, there is no mistake that this is not a story for the faint of heart. Mr. Barr’s descriptions are amazing at setting the scene and the mood of each gruesome moment. Fans of The Walking Dead and softcore porn will love The Skunge. A horror story that spews copious amounts of blood and gore, along with a mystery. What is the Skunge? Where did it come from? And most important, how to stop it?
Mr. Barr mixes tried and true plot elements with some new twists of his own that kept me glued to my computer deep into the morning hours.
The characters were well thought out and described. Each one with their own motivations that weren’t immediately evident.
The plot hearkened to most zombie films, with an element of intrigue added into the mix.
There was a humor element throughout, however it grew strongest toward the end of the book.
There were several scenes that made me cringe, but none that made me want to stop reading.
Mr. Barr’s choice of words had me opening my dictionary quite often, but in the end it was a fairly easy read.
There were a few times when the scene became confusing because there was no break in between, but a quick re-read straightened things out.
At one point I wasn’t sure if this book was a horror or an expose’ on the porn industry. However, the horror soon took over and dragged me through the rest of the story.
Mr. Barr’s turn of phrase was excellent and more often than not had me mentally applauding for taking what could be a simple line and writing it in such a way that the reader is immersed in the description.
A good horror book for those who aren’t afraid of some blood and gore.

Mr. Barr has the most wonderful way of painting vivid pictures with his words. With ‘Odd Ends’, Mr. Barr delivers a double punch in the gut as he drags us down into the bloody depths of horror.
Both of these tales are excellent, with descriptions that grab you and won’t let go. Each ending will chill you to the very marrow.
A quick read, yet deftly crafted, these tales are perfect for reading on a commute or a wait in the doctor’s office. Just don’t read them with the lights out.
The characters are developed well enough for a short story. My only complaint is that there are too many characters in the second story. It gets confusing.
Any fan of horror short stories will enjoy these addictive tales that keep your eyes glued to the screen.
I will be reading more of Jeff Barr’s work very soon.
