Aviator, Playboy, Film Producer, Entrepreneur, and Recluse, Howard Hughes lived a life that was the stuff of headlines. Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele's biography is an extraordinary and brilliantly researched work on Hughes's multiple careers; his romances with Katharine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Lana Turner, and Rita Hayworth; and his turn away from the world into addictions and secrecy. Book jacket.

Despite being published in 2012, this book holds up remarkably well. Some information is dated, but the basic argument still holds and the examples are still relevant.

I find it fascinating that the arguments used by Trump on his base are here--your jobs are going off shore! Other countries aren't paying their share! The little guy is getting hurt! But somehow the argument in the book and its reasons have been twisted and now we have this disaster of a President telling the screwed over what they want to hear while Paul Ryan guts our tax system even further. The President and his cronies laundering money and peddling influence while raking in cash and the poor are only going to get poorer. Oh, and healthcare still hasn't been fixed. Do not read unless you want to feel very pessimistic.… (más)
