The Cartoon Bank

This collection consists of cartoons from 26 cartoonists, centering loosely around the theme of male parentage ("Dads"). The cartoons are taken from a computerized stock house called The Cartoon Bank. I found very few of them to be funny. The best one graces the book's cover. In another semi- amusing one, a dad comforts his boy as they look at a pool of melted snow: "See son? He's not gone. He just turned into Splashy the Puddleman." Then there's the one entitled "Why We Have Kids": ("They're cleaner than apes. To help ease the balloon shortage. To control the population. and Because we can."). All reflect white, middle class life in US suburbia, and the humor tends to be low-key and deadpan. Overall, these cartoons just didn't appeal to me.… (más)
