My Day, Your Day by Robin Ballard is one of those wonderful books to read aloud with your toddler or preschooler who has a bit of separation anxiety. The sweet genius of the book is how the author compares daycare/preschool activities to parents' job activities. (For example, a preschool nap time is compared to a maternity ward nurse who carries a sleeping infant to waiting parents.)

This picture book is good for:
1. reading aloud
2. demonstrating non-traditional gender roles
3. easing separation anxiety in children
4. introducing daycare or preschool
5. showing multi-ethnic characters and
6. showing community workers.

I was excited when I found this book. I thought it would be perfect to read to my oldest who is a new big brother but was disappointed. The illustrations are cute but the story is simple and boring. It failed to excite my two year and me. The little boy in the story talks about what he likes to do and how he can help baby do things. I think the thought behind the book is sweet but there just isn't much to it.

Great for an only child or older sibling. Expresses how being an older sibling can be helpful, comforting and fun. While also explaining that want to be “the baby” as well. I personally enjoyed reading this to my oldest, who is more like the little boy in the book. Who is very independent and watchful of her siblings, but seeks us to have quality time together. This is a great reminder for anyone that may be in the presence of children to try and give then equal attention.

This book is about going to school, and the difficulties of saying goodbye to loved ones for the duration of the school day. This book has a great storyline that relates children’s activities at school to the activities their parents do at work. This book shows a diverse selection of people with a diverse selection of careers. It will support the idea that a child can do what they love when they grow up. It will also support children to feel more comfortable with the transition from home to school.… (más)
