This was a well-done take on the post-apocalyptic/dystopian genre. The characters are well written and the awakening of the main character was very well done. There was plenty of action and mayhem but also a lot of character development and it was interesting to watch the main characters come to realize what their purpose really is. I did feel some of the relationships were fast-tracked, they felt a bit forced at times, but the story flowed well enough that this didn't bother me too much. There were many questions left unanswered at the end of the novel but, as this is only the first in a series, that didn't surprise me. I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the story and the world and mostly enjoyed the main character but I pretty much hated all of the other characters, even those that were mostly aligned with the main. The constant abuse of the main character by all of the men surrounding her was very distressing and also kept dragging me out of the story because many times there seemed to be no reason (story-related reason) for it. The language was rather stilted at times too and I noticed many grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book. Despite all that, I NEEDED to finish the book. The story does grab you and pulls you along. However, the ending was a bit of a let-down. I can only hope this is book one in a series as the ending was too open-ended and angst-ridden if this is a stand-alone. I will read further books in this series if there are any despite my issues with the book because, as I said, it does pull you in!… (más)
