This a biography of this American artist written by his son-in-law who ia a very good friend of mine. Zornes was a member of the art movement called the California Scene Painters. During WW II he was a war artist who was assigned to the China, Burma and India theatre where he did not draw or paint war scenes but rather pictures of the natives who lived there, the soldiers who served there or the buildings and scenery he saw.

Zornes said that he was not a watercolourist but rather a painter who painted with watercolours. Using this metod almost exclusively presented some problems because he did a lot of his work on site outdoors. He also took many photographs but believed one should paint directly from the view, not from a photograph.

Some of the best parts of the book are the memories of fellow artists and his contributions to their work and self esteem. From all reports he was an amazing teacher as well who did workshops all over the world.
